I Identify As Korean - Now I'm Getting My Sixth Nose Job | HOOKED ON THE LOOK
  • 3 years ago
OLI London describes themself as ‘transracial’. The British-born social media star recently came out as non-binary and announced they ‘identify as Korean’. Oli, 31, said: “So obviously I identify as Korean, but people don’t seem to get that, so I kind of coined the term transracial to explain the fact that I do feel more connected to the Korean culture, the country, the people, everything. I feel more Korean than British.” Oli’s social media announcement sparked major backlash, with people accusing them of being racist and cultural appropriation. Oli said they have received death threats but that the messages of support from fans have kept them going. Oli said: “Becoming Korean, becoming this new person has really kind of given me a new lease of life. And at the end of the day, people just need to be a bit more accepting. They don't have to support it, I'm not asking people to accept the way I identify, that's fine, you can have your opinion, I always believe in freedom of speech. But this is just how I am and people need to realise that I'm actually not racist at all, I'm actually doing a lot for the Asian community and this is just generally how I feel.” Oli’s interest in Korean culture and K-pop star Jimin, of BTS, started when they lived in South Korea in 2013. Since then, Oli has undergone over 18 procedures and spent over $200,000 to look more like their boyband idol. However, after five nose jobs, Oli suffers difficulty breathing and has come to El Paso, Texas, to seek the help of Dr. Agullo aka Dr. Worldwide, to resolve these issues. Oli said: “I hope the surgery will improve my breathing but also make my nose look more ‘Korean’.”
