The United States completed its withdrawal from Kabul late Monday, ending its 20 years of war in Afghanistan. In a photo shared by the Department of Defense, Army Major General Chris Donahue was the last US soldier to step out of Afghanistan. With his departure ended the two weeks of hurried evacuation by the US and Nato allies from Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, celebratory gunfire rang out in Kabul after the completion of the US pullout. The Taliban fighters watched the last US planes disappear into the night sky and then fired their guns into the air and lit crackers, celebrating victory after the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
