5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Liftoff! The Philippines’ first university-built satellites finally reach space!

The launch is one big step for Filipinos in space.

Last Sunday, August 29, our own third and fourth nanosatellites, Maya-3 and Maya-4, rode aboard SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket’s Dragon C20.

“The launch is part of the SpaceX Commercial Resupply Mission-23 (SpX-23),” it wrote on Facebook on Friday, citing the STAMINA4Space.

The students behind the project received scholarship support from DOST-SEI.

The CubeSats can also be used for data collection systems with ground satellites and radios that serve the radio community and emergency response teams.

They are Derick Canceran, Judiel Reyes, Christy Raterta, Gladys Bajaro, Marielle Magbanua-Gregorio, Lorilyn Daquioag, Bryan Custodio, and Renzo Wee.
