Freelance Marketplaces Types - Introduction to Freelancing

Freelancer
A Freelancer is a self-employed person who works from the comfort of their home. Anywhere they want with the help of a computer/laptop and an internet connection. These Freelancers start working on their preferred work hours in the freelancer market.

Types of Freelance Marketplace -

First of all, freelancing is done on two techniques depending on the freelancer marketplace you are working on. This is because there are two types of freelance marketplace.

Traditional
These marketplaces work in a way such that employers come on them and post jobs for freelancers. Now the freelancers who see that project immediately bid on that project if they find it applicable according to their skillset. The employer goes through the bids. They check out the profile of the freelancer they find appealing. Now the employer will initiate the communication channel with you. After communication, if the employer finds you as the right person for the work they will award you the project. Now its the freelancer’s duty to complete the projects successfully. As work finishes the employer pays you for your work. This is how the Traditional Freelance Marketplace works. Examples of traditional marketplaces are Upwork, Freelancer, Guru, and Peopleperhour.

Non — Traditional
These marketplaces have a different concept but throughout they are also a very successful freelance marketplace. Here the freelancers display their packages and services in the form of gigs. These packages contain videos, price, extra offers, descriptions, and profiles. The Employer goes through the packages and hires the freelancer. When an employer purchases a gig, the payment stays in the Escrow. When a freelancer successfully completes and submits work then the employer releases payment from Escrow. This is how a Non — Traditional freelance marketplace works. An example of is Fiverr.com.

Major Freelance Marketplaces -

Upwork
It is a major freelance marketplace because there are very many employers posting their projects on a daily basis here from all around the world. A massive amount of freelancers are working here and getting projects.

Fiverr
On Fiverr, you have to follow its tradition of work by making packages and gigs that employers would purchase.

Conclusion -
Freelancing is a great field of work to choose because here you are your own boss and just need a computer and an internet connection for it. Acquire skill and polish it by working hard and making some good portfolio to display. Then offer it as a freelancer on marketplaces. You can choose your marketplaces to work on. I would suggest you start with Freelancer.com or Guru.com. This is because there is somehow little low competition on these sites. As you’ll gain experience by the time you can move to other major marketplaces.
Just remember every work requires hard work.
