The central government has taken an important step towards making India single-use plastic-free by next year. The Center on Thursday banned the use of 'single-use plastic items' with effect from July 1 next year, amid demands to tackle the menace of large-scale plastic waste across the country. Apart from this, the government has increased the thickness of polythene bags from 50 microns to 120 microns.

केंद्र सरकार ने अगले साल तक भारत को सिंगल-यूज प्लास्टिक-मुक्त बनाने की दिशा में अहम कदम उठाया है। केंद्र ने देश भर में बड़े पैमाने पर प्लास्टिक कचरे के खतरे से निपटने की मांग के बीच गुरुवार को अगले साल 1 जुलाई से 'सिंगल-यूज प्लास्टिक वस्तुओं के उपयोग पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया है। इसके अलावा सरकार ने पॉलीथीन बैग की मोटाई 50 माइक्रोन से बढ़ाकर 120 माइक्रोन तक कर दी है
