Tokyo Olympics 2020, Conducted After A Year's Delay Due To Pandemic, Comes To A Close

Tokyo 2020 Games were declared closed on August 8 by IOC chief Thomas Bach. He said it had been the "most challenging Olympic journey" after a year's pandemic delay & also the threats of cancellation. Bach called the Tokyo Games 2020 "unprecedented". Bach addressed the 68,000-seat Olympic Stadium, which was empty of viewers. Closing ceremony featured live and spectacular celebrations from the next host city. People of Paris & France embraced their role as host of the 33rd Olympics. The US scored victories in volleyball, basketball & track cycling to top the tally with 39 gold medals, just one ahead of China. Japan secured 27 golds to finish third on the table. Britain were fourth with 22. Russian Olympic Committee, team for Russian athletes after their country was banned for systematic doping, were fifth with 20. India secured seven medals, including their first gold medal in 13 years, from javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. India won two silver and four bronze medals.
