Steering system failure may be cause of tanker, cargo ship collision

A steering system failure is suspected to be the cause of a collision between a bulk carrier and a cargo ship at Sungai Muar near Johor Baru.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said no injuries have been reported among the total of 49 crewmen on both ships, adding that early investigations by the Johor MMEA showed that there is some damage to the Malta-registered bulk carrier, MV Galapagos as well as some oil spillage.
