Is Celtics PG Yam Madar Hype Warranted

Celtics fans could get a sneak peak at Point Guard Yam Madar, the 47th pick in last year’s draft, as he makes the Celtics' Summer League roster. The Celtics opted to stash Madar abroad last year so the 20-year-old could get minutes and mature overseas. In his return for his third season with Hapoel SP Tel Aviv, Madar averaged 17.1 points and 5.2 assists in the Israeli Winner League and won Most Improved Player honors.

At 6-foot-3, Madar has solid size for a NBA point guard, but has a history of struggling with shooting. In 2020-21, his shooting took a tremendous leap, as Madar went from shooting 26.7% from three in 2019-20 to 40% from distance last season on over four attempts per game. He is also known for having great court vision, something the Celtics need. Plus, Madar has been raved by the Israel media for his toughness and spirit, he is a player who never stops his intensity on both ends of the court.

Madar is currently at The Auerbach Center to train with the team before heading to the desert for the Vegas Summer League, which starts August 8th.

The Garden Report discusses the hype surrounding Madar, realistic expectations, and how his play can impact the Celtics.
