"Leave the Door Open" is the debut single by the American super-duo Silk Sonic, consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. It was released on March 5, 2021, by Aftermath Entertainment and Atlantic Records as the lead single from Silk Sonic's upcoming debut studio album An Evening with Silk Sonic. "Leave the Door Open" was written by Mars, Brandon Anderson, Dernst Emile II and Christopher Brody Brown, while the production was handled by Mars and D'Mile. "Leave the Door Open" is a Philadelphia soul and R&B song, influenced by quiet storm. Its romantic lyrics describe a "detailed erotic invitation".
Various publications compared the track to Mars's "Versace on the Floor" (2017).[19][20][25] Consequence's staff along with Mary Siroky also found similarities with Mars's "That's What I Like" (2017).[19] NME's Anna Rose said "Leave the Door Open" was "reminiscent of 60s and 70s easy listening love songs".[26] On the same vein, Zoe Haylock from Vulture dubbed the single a "smooth bedroom classic" as invokes the "'70s slow jams".[6] Mikael Wood of the Los Angeles Times thought Mars's falsetto voice to be close to the Spinners and the Stylistics.[23] Similarly, The New York Times's Jon Pareles compared the "close-harmony seductions" to the ones used by the Spinners, the Manhattans and the Stylistics.[21] Variety writer Jem Aswad compared its style to the Delfonics and the Chi-Lites.[15] MTV News's Patrick Hosken affirmed it is a "throwback to the time of Bobby Womack and Curtis Mayfield".[22] Billboard speculated that the single "plays off the title and chorus" of Teddy Pendergrass' "Close the Door" (1978).
