Level 70 Buoyancy AId Review: Mustang Khimera Lifejacket
  • 3 years ago
In this video, contributing editors, Jeff Hemmel, and Keeley Hemmel, demonstrate the Mustang Survival, "Khimera" , lifejacket. This is the first of the new Harmonized Level 70 buoyancy aids we have reviewed. The idea with these is that they provide some inherent buoyancy, enough to aid many an alert and unhurt person i the water. This keeps the bulk low. However, if more flotation is deemed necessary, the wearer can pull the release and inflate the lifejacket.

Level 70 buoyancy aids are intended for use by those who have a means of rescue close at hand, or who are near to bank or shore. These devices have minimal bulk, but cannot be expected to keep the user safe for a long period of time in disturbed water.

20.5 lbs of buoyancy (7.5 lbs of foam keep most bodies neutrally buoyant, 13 lbs additional buoyancy available when cells inflated). Wide arm slots and a minimal silhouette allow you to keep your mobility at a high so your center of gravity stays low - getting back in your boat with ease. Soft and durable material stands up to your adventures, yet won’t chafe or rub. Simple deflation system makes transitioning between buoyancies a breeze; no repacking required - just squeeze air out of the inflation cell and rearm the CO2 cylinder, then you're done. Adjustable shoulder and waist straps create a custom fit; attachment points and front pocket allow you to bring everything you need for a successful expedition like an extra C02 cylinder (sold separately).

This type of lifejacket is not for every boater in every situation--but may suit your situation.
