Op 2 oktober 2018 stapt journalist Jamal Khashoggi het Saoudische consultaat binnen in Instanbul. Hij komt nooit meer buiten. In THE DISSIDENT onthult de Oscarwinnende regisseur Bryan Fogel (Icarus) het web van bedrog en machtsmisbruik achter deze moord. Hij krijgt ongekende toegang tot het bewijsmateriaal verzameld door de Turkse overheid en praat met zij die het dichtste bij het verhaal staan: Khashoggi’s verloofde Hatice Cengiz, de Turkse politie, de aanklagers en de jonge Saoedische dissident waar Khashoggi mee samenwerkte.
