'Forgotten We'll Be': Director Fernando Trueba's tribute to a Colombian doctor

It began as a book written by a son in tribute to his father. Now Oscar-winning Spanish director Fernando Trueba has tried his hand at a film adaptation of the personal memoir "Forgotten We'll Be". Also known under its UK title "Memories of My Father", it's based on the true story of Colombian public health activist Héctor Abad Gómez.
The film is aptly told from the point of view of his son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, whose idyllic childhood was peppered with memorable moments with his loving father.Disaster strikes, though, making the boy abruptly face adulthood. Once an adult, tragedy hits again, when paramilitaries assassinate his father in 1987. The focus of the film is on father-son dynamics, but politics is a backbone of the storyline.Trueba (who directed "Belle Époque", "The Artist and the Model" plus "Chico and Rita") tells us what made him want to adapt this part of history for the big screen and what it was like working with Javier Cámara in the lead role. He also shares his hopes and fears for Colombian society today.
