A youth was arrested for allegedly preparing fake COVID-19 negative certificates at Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district. The arrested youth has been identified as Kalandi Tarai, who was running a photocopying centre.

Acting on a tip-off, Police conducted raid at his shop and seized a computer and a printer. Tarai was allegedly issuing fake COVID-19 negative certificates to people at Rs 300. Later, he reduced the price and charged around Rs 70 for one certificate.

Sources said that the racket was mostly targeting labourers and used to issue fake gate-passes to them to gain entry into the IOCL unit situated in the area.

The accused forged signatures and used fake rubber stamps of a government and a private doctor in the fake COVID certificates.
