Rs 1.13 lakh penalty for a motorcyclist!? It’s hard to believe, when you can get a new motorcycle with that much money. But that is what happened in Rayagada district of Odisha. A motorcyclist was penalized Rs 1.13 lakh for a series of violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The violator Prakash Banjara, from Madhya Pradesh was selling water storage drums on a bike when he was caught by traffic police during an inspection at DIB Square in the town.
Subsequently, a challan was issued by the traffic police for riding the bike without a helmet and the vehicle also did not have any registration number.
He was fined Rs 5,000 for using vehicle without registration number while another Rs 5,000 penalty was imposed on him for not possessing a valid driving license. Similarly, Rs 2000 was imposed for not having insurance and Rs 1000 for lack of helmet. A whopping fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed over sale of vehicle by the dealer in violation of guidelines.
The penalty is believed to be the biggest amount that has ever been levied on a two-wheeler in Odisha under the amended MV Act 2019.
