The mortal remains of social activist, Padma Shri D Prakash Rao were consigned to flames with full state honours at Kaliaboda crematorium in Cuttack today.
A host of dignitaries and noted personalities including Rajya Sabha member Subhas Singh, Cuttack (Barabati) MLA Mohammed Moqium, former MLA Prabhat Biswal, Collector Bhabani Charan Chaini and DCP Pratik Singh among others paid their last respect to the departed soul. Rao’s daughter Bhanipriya lit the funeral pyre in presence of her family members, relatives and around hundred school children.
Rao succumbed to a brain stroke at SCB Medical College yesterday where he was undergoing treatment for last 20 days. He had tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted in the special Covid ward.
Soon after his demise, condolences poured in from all quarters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to offer his condolences and recalled his meeting with Prakash Rao a few years ago.
Similarly, Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Jay Panda were among many noted personalities that offered their condolences to the departed soul.
Rao was known for his contribution towards imparting free education to slum and orphan children in Cuttack. He was conferred Padma Shri in 2019 for his contributions to the society in the field of social work.
