Goddess Under Water In Balasore – History | OTV News
  • 3 years ago
This submerged temple in Balasore’s Oupada Block is not only historic but also holds many legends within its largely invisible structure. It is called the temple of goddess Gadachandi. Just the top part of the temple with its flag is visible while everything else is under water. The Goddess, also called as Gupta Chandi, is worshipped from outside and devotees offer their prayers from across the lake.

As per historical accounts, the erstwhile king of Nilagiri, Kishore Chandra Mardaraj Harichandan built this temple. The king was extremely passionate about hunting. During his hunting trips, the King used camp in that three-storey building, which is also half-submerged in this lake. And during his hunting trips he decided to build this temple

Many visit this place to offer worship to Goddess Gadachandi. Even though they cannot have darshan of the goddess inside the temple, they offer prayers & seek blessings from a distance by just witnessing the top of the temple and its flag.
