The 31st Konark Festival set in the background of the world-famous Sun temple and the 8th Internal Sand Art Festival at Chandrabhaga beach are all set to begin today and continue till Dec 5.

Following a High Court order, State Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev, Tourism Director Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav and Puri District Collector, Balwant Singh reviewed all the arrangements for the twin events.

The events are an attempt at reviving the tourism sector which was affected by the COVID 19 induced guidelines imposed since the last 8 months. These events are expected to play a major role in promoting the art and culture of Odisha. To showcase the heritage and the art forms of the State, the stages for both events have been decorated in a special manner. The stage for the dance festival has been decorated using lights, traditional decoration and flowers. To display the beautiful sand art, barricades have been erected at the Chandrabhaga beach along with display lights.

In addition to the beautification, authorities at the Konark Dance Festival have also make arrangements for vehicle-parking and drinking-water at the event premises. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the authorities have made seating arrangements for 660 people at each of the premises by maintaining at least 3 feet distance between chairs.

The cost of each entry pass has been fixed at Rs 100. Similarly, arrangements for individual registration and free token distribution have been made for the International Sand art festival.
During the five days of the Konark Dance Festival, classical dances like Odissi, Kathak, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Balinese dance by Indonesian dancers will be performed.

The International Sand Art Festival will be participated by over 70 artists from Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu who will display their skill across 20 different stalls. However, no International sand artist will be joining the event this year due to the COVID 19 pandemic situation.

Hearing a petition over organizing the twin events, the High Court had given a nod while making the COVID 19 guidelines mandatory.
