Dr Happymon Jacob interviews Dr Aruna Sharma (Former Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India) on the state of India’s cybersecurity infrastructure. She unpacks the challenge of state-sponsored cyberattacks and argues for an umbrella body for centralised response. The issues of cyber policymaking and standardised controls for software and electronic hardware are highlighted. Dr Sharma also weighs in on the debate regarding indigenization and data privacy concerns.
