In a 40-minute interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire Mr. Shivshankar Menon said just as we do not know why the Chinese intruded into Indian territory at several different points in Ladakh last year we also do not have a clear idea why, after months of intransigence, the Chinese have agreed to withdraw.

In the interview to The Wire, Mr. Menon also spoke about India-US relations under President Biden. He said: “There hasn’t been a US President since George Bush senior who has a better knowledge of world affairs” and then pointedly added, “there hasn’t been a US President ever who is more familiar with India”. This precis of the interview will give details of Mr. Menon’s comments about India-US relations towards the end.
