Punjab's Nihang Sikhs Come Out in Support of Protesting Farmers I Arfa Khanum I Singhu Border

At Singhu border, protesting farmers from Punjab and Haryana are joined by the Nihang Sikhs, a community of armed Sikhs who hold arms to protect themselves.
The farmers have been gathered in protest against the three farm laws since November 26. Over ten days have passed since but the talks between the government and the farmers have not made any headway.
Speaking to The Wire, the Nihang Sikhs said that they were in solidarity with the farmers because wrong was being done ‘not only with farmers but with everyone’.
“We are protesting peacefully, they [Delhi Police] first put barricades and then used water cannons and threw tear gas shells at us”, said one protestor, pointing to the many lost lives in this agitation.
Brutal police action towards farmers is why the Nihang Sikhs don’t trust the police in protecting them. They will protect themselves, they maintain.
Protestors also dismiss the government’s concern for them over COVID. They believe that ‘if the government was so concerned about us, they wouldn’t have passed these laws and forced us to come out onto the streets’.
