Delhi's positivity rate dips to 1% in last 24 hours; Justice (Retd) Arun Mishra new NHRC chief; more

Delhi's Covid-19 test positivity rate dipped below 1 per cent for the third day in a row on Wednesday. The positivity rate was 0.78 per cent on Wednesday, coming down from 0.88 per cent on Tuesday and 0.99 per cent on Monday. For the first time since March 31, Delhi's active coronavirus cases also dropped below 10,000 on Wednesday. The national capital's active caseload now stands at 9,364 cases. According to the state health bulletin, Delhi recorded 576 new Covid-19 cases and 103 deaths in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Justice Arun Kumar Mishra (Retd) took charge of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday. He retired from the Supreme Court last year in August. Justice Mishra enrolled as a lawyer in 1978 and was elected the youngest chairperson of the Bar Council of India (BCI) in 1998-99. The name of Justice Mishra was recommended by a panel comprising PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.
