Steve Nash was interviewed pregame before the Nets’ Game 5 matchup vs the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. He spoke about the team’s ball movement, tonight being a close out game, and the comfort levels of the team.
The Nets’ ball movement was much better last game. Nash was asked about how the team can ensure that it remains that way in the future: “I don’t know that we can ensure it… those are habits that need to be formed over time… you need to go out and do it night after night… our rotation for the playoffs has played four games together.”
Nash also spoke about the idea of Game 5 being a “close out” game for the Nets: “They can be the toughest game, no matter what… the team with their backs against the wall… they have one last chance, they can get incredibly hot, and confident… it can be the hardest game to close out.”
Lastly, Nash talked about how comfortable the team is together, despite the fact that they’ve only played a limited number of games together: “I don’t love talking about the number of games… it is what it is… whatever you end up playing in the playoffs… that’s nothing… our team is so far from being fully formed, but that’s not what we’re talking about here, it's how well can we compete right now… I accept it… we don’t want to give our players any outs or excuses… it’s just a different kind of context.”
