Three new local cases were detected overnight in Victoria, bringing the total active cases to 54 across Melbourne. Prof. Raina MacIntyre says the b1617 variant is 50 per cent more contagious than the UK strain. She says this variant originating from India has a mutation that is more likely to be vaccine resistant.
