Will more audits follow Maricopa? \

The ongoing audit in Maricopa County has hit the headlines, but can we expect more audits into the 2020 election after this? Is Maricopa the first in a long line? Some factions of the GOP are pushing for this, others hang back and don't think it's a good idea. We speak with Matt Klink, GOP strategist and Arizona strategist Lorna Romero, former director of communications for John McCain and the owner of Elevate Strategies about these divisions within their party and what they feel is the best path forward.

An audit underway in the crucial Arizona county of Maricopa, the latest re-examination of the November 2020 election. The audit, reflecting some of the issues the GOP faces at large. While the audit was called for by Republicans, those for and against have split into factions.

Matt Klink, GOP Strategist
the 2020 election is still being played out by uh largely by vestiges of uh the pro trump side, who believed that that election was stolen and that they actually did win in Arizona.

Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz speaking in the state, hailing the audit as a launchpad for further investigations into the results of the 2020 election across the country. Republican strategists on the ground in the Grand Canyon state suggest this isn't a good idea for Arizona.....or anywhere else.

Lorna Romero, Elevate Strategies (Former Comms director John McCain)
this is the fundamental part of the democratic process of the United States of America is, you know, having free and fair elections and to question and undermine it and create this process moving forward where anybody might have access to ballots and do their own audits is frightening.

Despite speculation that the Maricopa electoral audit will create a domino effect into other states, The audit has been marred by accusations of malpractice and many elected officials in Arizona originally enthusiastic about the audit have begun to pull back support.

Matt Klink
The challenge that the supporters of the audit have in Maricopa county is they need to find widespread voter fraud in the ballot count too complete their narrative that the election was stolen. That is extremely, extremely difficult to prove.

Experts say the less time ruminating on the past, the better for the GOP when it comes to the next batch of ballots.

SOT LORNA ROMERO
the longer that this gets drawn out the more concerning this is for republicans moving forward, especially in the county, like Maricopa County where the demographics are changing and they have been changing for years.
