Celtics React to an Iconic Robert Williams III Performance
  • 3 years ago
Robert Williams III shattered the Celtics NBA Playoff record and neared NBA history with 9 blocks vs the Nets, stuffing Kyrie Irving and James Harden while redirecting Kevin Durant inside. He blocked Bruce Brown twice and sent Nick Claxton packing at the rim. This was all while playing through turf toe.

Post game interviews following the Celtics' loss to the Nets. Brad Stevens, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, and Jayson Tatum gave their thoughts on the team's performance and how they can better approach game two on Tuesday.

"Our competitiveness was right, our focus defensively was right for the most part,” said Coach Stevens. “We had some miscues, but not a ton and we just got to attack their switching better. They got a lot of long athletic guys out there and prideful individual defenders and they know how to play, so we've got to be better at manipulating actions to get what we want"

Smart said “I mean you definitely want to come in and then especially the playoffs and steal a road win...we got a lot to build on...we gotta move on. This game's over, gotta tip you hat to those guys. They did what they were supposed to do. They took care of the home court right now and they got another chance to try it again.”

On how he’s planning on tackling the issue and if he had ever gotten this many blocks before, Williams said “You know it's just a delicate situation. It's really pain tolerance, you feel me? And no, actually I haven't gotten this many blocks in a game, ever. But don't mean s*** if we lose, man.”

Boston was doing a solid job defensively against the Nets for big stretches of the game, but ultimately caved in crunch time. Tatum wasn’t too swayed in the wrong direction about the loss.
“Certainly some things we might have to change going forward, so you know we're going to watch them tomorrow come back for the next game”
