A funding boost of £3.2 million has been awarded to the University of Central Lancashire.
It will be used to fund continuing developments and innovations at the university, including partnerships with businesses and emergency services.
One such partnership is already underway with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and BAE Systems.
It could see new firefighting drone responses to wildfires as early as 2022.
