CDC Advisers Recommend
Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine
for Kids Ages 12 to 15.
A CDC advisory committee voted on
May 12 to officially recommend the Pfizer vaccine
for use in children 12 to 15 years of age.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky formally
adopted the recommendation soon after.
According to Dr. Yvonne Maldonado of the American
Academy of Pediatrics, this development is an
“important step” forward for immunization in the U.S.
Approving Covid-19 vaccines for
children 12 to 15 years of age is an
important step in removing barriers
for vaccinating children of all ages, Dr. Yvonne Maldonado, via ‘The New York Times’.
Although children have a lower risk of
contracting severe COVID-19 illness, the virus has
infected more than 1.5 million kids. .
More than 13,000 of them have been
hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
In addition, teenagers are thought to transmit COVID-19
as readily as adults, meaning increased inoculation
among adolescents will benefit everyone. .
Every person with Covid-19 provides the
virus with an opportunity to spread and
continue to mutate and further expose
our communities … The decisions from
health authorities this week bring us one
step closer to protecting adolescents
and achieving herd protection, Dr. Bill Gruber, Senior Vice President at Pfizer,
