Novak Djokovic beats Taylor Fritz at Rome Masters after rain delay

Defending champion Novak Djokovic returned from a lengthy rain delay to complete a straight sets win over Taylor Fritz in the second round of the Rome Masters on Tuesday.

Having taken the opening set 6-3 on the back of a solitary break, top seed Djokovic served for the match at 5-4 in the second set under persistent rain.

Fritz broke back though - much to Djokovic's displeasure - before the players were taken off court to wait for an improvement in the weather.

When play resumed after a delay of around three hours, both players held serve in the two remaining games before Djokovic claimed the ensuing tiebreaker 7-5 for a straight sets win.

The world number one's bid for a sixth Rome title will see him take on Cameron Norrie or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round.
