No Covid fear: Villagers gather to celebrate fishing festival in Madurai

The famous, centuries-old fishing festival is being celebrated at Thiruvathavur in Madurai on May 1. Flouting the Covid-19 SOPs, hundreds of people from five villages gathered in large numbers to celebrate the annual festival. With no mask, no social distancing, they were seen celebrating the festival. The fishes that are caught during the festival are cooked and offered to the deity for better harvest and health.
