Brad Stevens was interviewed postgame after the Celtics’ massive comeback win vs the San Antonio Spurs, 143-140. Stevens gave praise to Jayson Tatum’s massive 60-point game but was also visibly angry at the poor first-half effort.
The Celtics were down by as much as 30 points in the first half. Stevens voiced his displeasure after the game. “I’m dual emotions right now,” said the head coach. “The starts are ridiculous… if we want to be any good we’re going to have to change that.”
He continued this sentiment whilst talking about the so-called “switch” the Celtics seem to turn on in the second half of every game. “We haven’t been this bad very often in the first half, this was a different level,” he said. “We have an opportunity to peak at the right time if we show up.”
Stevens did praise young superstar Jayson Tatum, though, who tied Larry Bird’s Celtics scoring record with 60 points. “Tatum was amazing, as you know,” he said. “We needed every one of those 60 points.”
