The Indian government has advised people to wear face masks at home, especially if a Covid-19 patient is around. The recommendation came from Dr V K Paul who heads India’s Covid-19 task force. The suggestion came on a day when India reported a record 352,991 new cases. India has been registering record numbers of daily Covid-19 cases that have overwhelmed the country's healthcare system. As a result, the centre’s advice is intended to break the chain of transmission and reduce fresh infections. Hospital beds in major Indian cities are packed to capacity which means many patients are being turned away.
