Kemba Walker OUT Until Friday | Celtics vs Thunder

Brad Stevens was interviewed pregame before the Celtics matchup vs the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stevens offered an update on Robert Williams, saying that he’s “Close...we’re hopeful that he’ll play tomorrow [against Charlotte].” As for Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker, Coach Stevens said “Kemba’s out for at least the next two [games]… we’re hopeful that Jayson will be back tomorrow…just dealing with a bunch of different things.”
Digging further into Walker’s status, Stevens elaborated that “we’re gonna re-evaluate him Thursday… he’s got a strain on that side.” Walker left the game abruptly after contesting a three-point shot and tweaking his back while reaching out, but eventually returned to finish the game out after several minutes.
With the continued changes of COVID policies, TD Garden will be able to have fans present at 25% capacity, a 13% jump up from current limits. Stevens said “What’s it at right now… I think it’ll be twice as good. Can't wait to have them all here….it still feels louder than most even with 12% capacity… I have not heard that exact number but I'm excited about that.”
As the team has less than a dozen games left before the playoffs, teams are jockeying for better positioning. For the Celtics approach, Stevens said the team is “Only going to peak if we get fully healthy. We have to play well to win….we do not have this extra gear that people talk about. We have to play well, we have to compete, we have to move the ball on one end, we have to defend with great urgency…we did not do that on Sunday.” With Kemba Walker’s injury, Coach Stevens stated the importance of Payton Pritchard and his role. “Yeah we’ll need everybody… he’s [Pritchard] done a good job of being ready… his work ethic is pretty darn special… I would include Aaron [Nesmith] in that… both are far beyond their years in terms of readiness.”
