Taco Bell to Give Sauce Packets a, ‘Spicier Second Life’, With New Recycling Program.
Taco Bell is partnering with recycling company TerraCycle
to extend the short life of its signature sauce packets. .
TerraCycle is renowned for collecting, cleaning,
melting down and remolding traditionally
non-recyclable materials into hard plastic that
can be used to create recycled products. .
According to Taco Bell’s
press release, 8.2 billion
sauce packets are used in
the United States each year. .
Unfortunately, there’s no
“widely available solution”
for recycling condiment packets. .
That’s why Taco Bell is “thrilled to leverage the
expertise” of TerraCycle to give its packets a
“spicier second life that doesn’t involve a landfill.”.
Together, Taco Bell and TerraCycle
will push the quick service industry
by finally finding a way to recycle
this type of product. This effort
takes us one step closer to keeping
packets out of landfills ... , TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky, via press release.
Details of Taco Bell’s recycling pilot program
will be announced later this year.
Customer participation in the
program will be easy and free. .
Taco Bell’s latest efforts are in line with its
goal of making all consumer-facing packaging
compostable, recyclable or reusable by 2025.
