Russia Plans to Abandon
International Space Station.
Russia is officially pulling out of the
International Space Station after 20 years
of collaborative research. .
Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russia’s state
space corporation, Roscosmos, confirmed
the news to the ‘Financial Times.’.
We are beginning negotiations with
our NASA partners, we are formalizing
them now … We will simply hand
over the responsibility for our
segment to the partners, Dmitry Rogozin, via Futurism.
Rogozin also stressed that Russia’s withdrawal
does not mean the station will be immediately
“scrapped and dumped into the ocean.” .
On April 20, Rogozin uploaded a video to
Twitter showing the beginning construction
of Russia’s own space station. .
Rogozin says they are planning to
launch it into orbit by 2030.
Russia also recently
signed an agreement
to build a station
with China.
This comes after the country declined offers from
NASA to develop the Gateway, a similar station.
