2021 ACM Awards: Recap & Inclusivity | RS News 4/19/21

The Academy of Country Music staged its 2021 ACM Awards show on Sunday night in Nashville. Luke Bryan, who had to cancel his performance on the broadcast after testing positive for Covid-19, was named Entertainer of the Year. He accepted remotely from Los Angeles.

Elsewhere, Maren Morris won awards for Female Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “The Bones.” Carly Pearce and Lee Brice were right behind her with two wins: Their collaboration “I Hope You’re Happy Now” was named Single of the Year and Music Event of the Year.

It was the second ACM Awards in just seven months, as the 2020 awards were delayed due to Covid. And if those ACMs made a point of being transparent in their approach to Covid safety, this year’s show did the same in the way it addressed country music’s inclusivity problem, celebrating a range of diverse winners, presenters and performers.
