Marcus Smart was interviewed postgame after the Celtics’ 116-115 win vs the Portland Trailblazers. Smart talked about teammate Jayson Tatum as well as his defensive mindset in recent weeks.
When asked about Tatum’s hot stretch, Smart had nothing but praise. “The way he’s been playing these last couple games, it’s proof in itself,” said Smart. “We all see it, we’re all witnessing his growth.”
Smart was asked multiple questions about his defense, particularly against Blazers star Damian Lillard. “He’s such a great player you have to respect every aspect” of his game, said Smart. “You just pray that you can contain him as much as you can.”
He was also asked about how he feels his defense has been in recent weeks. When asked about whether or not he thinks he’s back to All-Defensive First Team shape, Smart had three words to say - “just getting started.” Smart has been named to the All-Defense First Team for the past two seasons.
