Coach Nash Reacts to Minnesota Shooting
Coach Steve Nash of the Brooklyn Nets was interviewed pregame before the Nets’ matchup vs the Minnesota Timberwolves. He commented on the recent shooting of Daunte Wright that took place in Minnesota.
“I can’t imagine what it is like to be African-American, to be an African-American parent,” said Nash. “It is unacceptable. It is devastating. It is the same thing over and over again… people are losing their lives for no reason.”
Wright was shot at a traffic stop in a suburb outside of Minneapolis, “It’s worrisome that life keeps moving forward and nothing changes,” said Nash during his press conference. Nash has been a very vocal advocate for social justice movements over the past year.
The game between Brooklyn and Minnesota was originally supposed to be played on Monday but was postponed in light of the tragic event. Nash said he would have supported not playing the game, but was worried about whether or not it would change anything.
“Before you know it, we’ll be in Philly and back home, and then we’ll be in the next city,” said Nash. “A poor kid lost his life and a poor baby lost his father. It’s sickening.”
