A motorist has had a lucky escape after spotting one of the world's deadliest snakes pop its head out of her car's glove box while she drove down a busy motorway.
The driver was heading down the Logan Motorway in Brisbane last month during peak hour traffic when she caught sight of the 1.5m long red-bellied black snake.
Despite being just inches away from the deadly reptile, the woman calmly pulled over to the side of the motorway and trapped the snake underneath a bag.
Sharing a video of the horrifying encounter, Mr Johnson said the woman quickly pulled over after noticing the snake was 'moving towards her leg'.
'It was a race against time to get the snake out from behind the glovebox,' he said.
'The snake was finally released back into the bush after about 30 minutes of working him out of the vehicle.
Red-bellied black snakes are found along the east coast of Australia and in south-eastern South Australia.
They can grow up to two-metres long and while they aren't aggressive, they can cause severe pain and illness to humans if bitten.
There has been no recorded deaths from red-bellied black snakes in Australia but many bite victims will find themselves in hospital.
