Deuce Called Jayson Tatum After 53 Point Game
  • 3 years ago
TD GARDEN - Jayson Tatum was interviewed postgame after the Celtics’ 145-136 win vs the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime. Tatum had the first 50-point game of his career and answered a lot of questions about it during the press conference.
He spoke about his son, Deuce, not being there. “He called me after the game and told me congrats,” said the two-time All-Star. “It just means I have to do it again someday and he’ll be there next time.”
Tatum also commented on being compared to the great Celtics legend Larry Bird. He said “it’s kind of hard to put into words” what it’s like being mentioned in the same thought as a legend, and says that “it’s an honor.” “I just grew up and wanted to be in the NBA when I was a kid… now living out my dream at a high level and that’s more than I ever could have wished for.”
The superstar also mentioned Jaylen Brown’s pass to him in the fourth quarter, saying that he and the rest of the team acknowledged the unselfishness of the play. “That just shows the growth in all of us,” said Tatum. Brown dumped the ball off to Tatum for two points when he easily could have scored himself. They were Tatum’s 47th and 48th points of the night, on his way to his first 50-point performance.
