Villagers restored centuries old Bangaramma and Anesondilu Lakes in Sagar Taluk of Shivamogga district without taking monetary help from the government.

They decided to rejuvenate the water bodies in 2017. After three years, lakes were restored and filled with water.

“We have been working for desilting the tanks from past three years. One is Anesondilu Lake, which earlier was having storing capacity of 25 thousand litres. After desilting, it reached to capacity of 65 lakh litres of water. Second lake is called Bangaramma Lake which is almost 600 years old, had the capacity of storage just 10 lakh litres, and after desilting it is having storage up to 2 crores liters of water,” said Akhilesh Chipli, an environmentalist.
