Maharashtra Announces COVID-19 Restrictions: What's Open, What's Shut, All You Need To Know

Maharashtra government on April 4 announced new restrictions including a night curfew in the state from 8 pm till 7 am. A "strict lockdown" over the weekends from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am. The move comes amid an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases. The rules will come into effect from April 5 and will be applicable till April 30. The decisions came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray led a cabinet meeting to discuss the situation on April 4. The meeting was held two days after Thackeray said he could not rule out a second lockdown to combat the spike in coronavirus cases in the state. Maharashtra reported nearly 50,000 new cases on April 3, around 60 per cent of all cases reported from across the country on that day. State capital Mumbai reported over 11,000 cases on April 4, the most in a day since the pandemic began in December 2019.
