How should you prepare for your jaw cyst surgery | Dr Sanchaita Kohli - Maxillofacial Surgeon Delhi

Jaw cysts are unique to every patient – they are a combination of size, location, type, histology, and structure. It is important to not compare your case with another patient’s and remember that there is no one-size-fits-all medical treatment.

For instance, a small cyst may be removed in a single sitting, but larger cysts require two stages – the first stage involves removing a small sample for biopsy, the results of which determine the further course of treatment.

A growing cyst slowly destroys the bone structure around the root of the teeth, which may disrupt the blood supply making them dead. These teeth require root canal treatment before the jaw cyst surgery can take place. One or teeth may also need to be extracted to improve access to the cyst during surgery.

Meet Dr Sanchaita Kohli, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to understand more about the procedure.
