Bengal: Sporadic violence marks first phase of voting

Voting in phase 1 of West Bengal and Assam Assembly elections 2021 is being held on Saturday. Several incidents of violence were reported from various places that went to the polls on Saturday. Some security personnel on poll duty in Satsatamal constituency of Purba Medinipur district in state were left injured in a firing incident on Saturday morning. TMC has claimed that BJP workers have thrashed voters in Bankura's Saltora. Whereas, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's younger brother Soumendu claimed he was attacked in Kanthi by TMC supporters.
