Nuggets Outbid Celtics for Aaron Gordon at the Trade Deadline
  • 3 years ago
Jeff Goodman and Bob Ryan react to the trade deadline deal that sent Aaron Gordon to the Denver Nuggets. Gordon was one of the top targets for the Boston Celtics, Portland Trailblazers, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Celtics were on the top of Gordon's list of teams he wished to go to, but they were unable to meet the trade demands of the Magic. Orlando wanted Marcus Smart in a deal, but Danny Ainge was unwilling to give him up. The package of Gary Harris, R.J. Hampton, and a first-round pick was enough to pry Gordon away from the Nuggets.
Gordon gives the Nuggets a switchable defender who can start for them alongside Nikola Jokic. He's averaging 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on the year. Gordon’s reliable three-point shooting and insane athleticism made him a very valuable commodity at the trade deadline this year. Denver was able to get the deal done.
