Sean (Lee Ingleby) and Yvonne (Christine Bottomley) have an unhappy marriage. Sean regularly loses his temper and beats Yvonne up. She finds the strength to leave him, changing the locks while he's out, but the strain proves too much for Yvonne's mum, Mary (Ruth McCabe).
