We are being vigilant, says IGP over risk of retaliation from North Korea

Police have been ordered to be more vigilant and heighten the security measures at sensitive locations in the country following threats issued by North Korea recently, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.

He told reporters today that the security level will be maintained until they are satisfied that there is no more risk.

"Actually, what happened recently was not because we want to make enemy with them, but it was North Korea itself that wanted to sever ties with us because of the extradition of its citizen (to the United States), which they should understand that it was done according to legal processes."

Last week, Pyongyang announced its decision to sever diplomatic ties with Malaysia, following the extradition of a North Korean businessperson to the US earlier this month to face money laundering charges.

The republic also warned that Malaysia would bear the consequences of the extradition.
