The incident happened in the 12th over bowled by Sam Curran. Cutting back of a length ball, Pant ran two with Kohli before the throw came in at England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler's end. Buttler tried to deflect it backwards but the ball went beyond the stumps, leading to Kohli calling for another run. Pant, who followed the skipper and ran for a third, was well short when Buttler grabbed the ball and threw it down to Curran at the bowler's end. Pant held his head in disappointment as made his way back to the dugout. Pant's dismissal left India reeling at 64/4.

कप्तान विराट कोहली की गलती की वजह से ऋषभ पंत को पवेलियन लौटना पड़ा. ऋषभ पंत अच्छे लय में नजर आ रहे थे. पर ज्यादा की चाहत में कोहली की वजह से रन आउट हो गए. कोहली इसलिए क्योंकि कॉल उन्होंने ही लिया था. और इसके बाद ऋषभ पंत उस रफ्तार से क्रीज पर पहुँच नहीं पाए. लेट रिएक्ट किया था. और नतीजा भारत को एक बड़ा झटका लगा. ऋषभ पंत 25 रन बनाकर आउट हुए. भारत की पारी के 12वें ओवर की बात है. सैम करन गेंदबाजी कर रहे थे, ओवर की पहली गेंद बैक ऑफ़ लेंथ थी. जिसे हल्के से स्वीपर कवर की तरफ ऋषभ पंत ने कट कर दिया था. इसके बाद दौड़ते हुए आसानी से ऋषभ पंत और कप्तान कोहली ने दो रन चुरा लिए.
