Shutdown observed in Shopian after burning of several houses

A shutdown was observed in Shopian district against the burning of several houses by the government forces.
A day after two rebels were killed in the gunfight in the Rawalpora area of southern Kashmir demonstrations were held in several areas including Shopian town.
Shops and business establishments remained shut while the traffic was off the road. Several houses were burnt and people lost their property worth crores in the gunfight that lasted for three days , local residents said.
Two rebels including a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Wilayat Lone alias Sajad Afghani, were killed in the gunfight. Another rebel identified as Jahangir Ahmad Wani son of late Abdul Rehman Wani resident of Rakh Narapora Shopian, of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed on Sunday in the gunfight.
Police said earlier that Sajad had joined rebel ranks on 8 September 2018, while Jehangir joined the LeT rebel group in September 2020.
Several youth were also injured during the gunfight in the anti-India demonstrations in the area. The government forces also said that they have recovered 1 M4 carbine,1 AK 47 rifle, 3 magazines and 36 Armour piercing rounds from the encounter site.
