The event attracts many tourists and real life country musicians to Pitchfork, including Mary Ford, Merle Travis, Jimmy Wakely, and countless others. Starring as Farmer Jenkins is Slim Summerville, a former Keystone Cop who became one of Hollywood's most reliable journeyman, appearing in everything from Charlie Chan and Shirley Temple movies, to the classic All Quiet on the Western Front.
