A 16-YEAR-OLD who was born with a mysterious condition affecting his leg hopes to compete in gymnastics at an international level. Nikhil from Delhi, India told Truly: “The way I do gymnastics, no one else does in the entire of India. I do a backflip with just one leg. Many people consider such a condition to be a hindrance, but I draw strength from my condition.” Nikhil practices gymnastics for 2-3 hours a day with his coach Rizwan, only using crutches for long walks. Rizwan said: “Nikhil’s brother and me used to practice together. Nikhil used to come and watch us. We felt that he wanted to practice too. But we could not figure out how he would do it. Then one day I thought maybe he could do stunts with one leg.” Nikhil was once mocked for his condition, but since becoming a viral sensation - he’s made many friends. He said: “Now a lot of people know me. Now people don’t stare at me much. Instead they have become friends with me. I want to compete in the future, I want to show my talent on an international level."
